Elections in Karnataka: DK Shivakumar v Siddaramaiah banner conflict in CM race after Cong's large win

Karnataka Assembly elections in 2023: During the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" in Karnataka's Chitradurga, Rahul Gandhi was surrounded by Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah. (The Congress won 135 seats in the 224-member House and a vote share of 42.9% in the southern state.) Source: Twitter/Congress) The Congress celebrated its decisive victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly election on Saturday. For the first time since Himachal Pradesh last year, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was swept aside by a margin of 69 seats in the state election. On Sunday the Congress awakened to a banner conflict after allies of state supervisor DK Shivakumar and the active Head of the Resistance Siddaramaiah put the capital with banners requesting their 'man' be designated boss pastor.

That the Congress would need to pick between their two tallest forerunners in the state was guaranteed and just the (lucky) acknowledgment that everybody in the party needed to cooperate to beat the BJP's tremendously vaunted political decision hardware kept a cover on a competition presently clearly rising over irately.

Peruse | Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah: Allies on the campaign trail make CM hopefuls. Now that they have what has been called a record win (in terms of vote share), it looks like the gloves are off; This morning, the news agency ANI published videos of "CM race" posters placed outside the homes of DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru.

DK Shivakumar, widely regarded as the focal point of the Congress in the southern state, made his (first) bid for the position of chief minister yesterday evening, shortly after the departed chief minister Basavaraj Bommai conceded defeat.

DKS' message - 'I conveyed Karnataka to the overlap… ' - was joined by a profound second as he said thanks to the Gandhi family (and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge) and said sorrowfully he had been enlivened by Sonia Gandhi visiting him while in prison in Delhi in 2020.
